Then the place to be is the world-famous Kruger National Park. It is ranked as one of the best places in the world to see wild life in its natural habitat. Established in 1898 to protect the fauna and flora of the Mpumalanga Lowveld, this immense conservation area covers more than 20,000 square kilometers and is home to an impressive number of species.
Few guests pass its gates today without experiencing a true emotional tie to Mother Earth as it once was a true conservation showcase. These days the Kruger National Park is not only a park of animals, but a park for the people, where visitors can find peace and tranquility from the urban jungle that constitutes most of our busy lives.
Many people prefer the winter months from May to August. Temperatures are then very pleasant with warm days and chilly nights. The vegetation is less thick, making game viewing easier.
Spring is from August to October and is possibly the best of all seasons. The migrant birds return and vegetation is still not overgrown and the animals congregate near permanent water sources.
Summer is from November to March and the Park is then very hot and humid with evening thunder showers. On hot days the animals are more active during the early mornings and late afternoons.
Autumn (Fall) is from March to May when rainfall is at its highest and temperatures still high. The vegetation is at its thickest, but many of the antelope species are in their rut season, which makes fascinating viewing as males battle over territories.
